Berlin street art
Sie kommen nachts. Mit ihnen kommen Fotokopien, Tapetenbahnen, Kleister, Paketzettel oder Sprühschablonen. Morgens sind ihre Aktivitäten sichtbar und kleben an Fassaden, Trafohäuschen, Verkehrsschildern oder Containern.
Gewinnt man einmal den Blick für diese Botschaften, wird man Linda, Gould, Nomad, Tower oder Fuck your Crew sowie all die Namenlosen nicht mehr los.
Um diesen neuen, subkulturellen Strömungen von StraBenkunst gerecht zu werden, hat sich in den letzten Jahren der Begriff "Street Art" etabliert. Street Art bedient sich in ähnlicher Weise wie Graffiti, Taggen oder Writing des öffentlichen Raums, macht dies aber mit wesentlich Konkreteren Botschaften und Bildern.

Carácter Efímero
Dado su carácter efímero, los graffiti son también una forma de observar las transformaciones de una ciudad. Así lo ha captado la fotógrafa y diseñadora Rosa Puig, en el libro. Barcelona 1000 graffitis (Editorial Gustavo Gili), que recoge un millar de graffiti que han llenado las paredes de la capital catalana en los tres últimos años.
El 80 % de los graffiti ya no existen. Eran paredes de fábricas cerradas y empresas absoletas que se han transformado en otros usos. " Me gustan los graffiti más sencillos porque suelen tener un concepto más profundo " dice Rosa Puig . El Periódico de Catalunya /2006
From vandalism to art
Graffiti had become a truly international phenomenon and in some ways was starting to grow faster overseas than it was in the United States. Historically, Europe has always been more supportive of the arts and, in that tradition, even sommething as criminal as graffiti was met with open arms in many countries. While illegal graffiti continued to flourish in such cities as Berlin, Copenhagen, Barcelone, Rome, Paris and London, there was also a significant rise in goverment-sanctioned, legal graffiti events. Legal walls and city-funded murals were commonplace. European companies were also some of the first to capitalize on graffiti´s visual potential. Their corporate sponsorships allowed the sucess of multi-country graffiti conventions or "jams".
Today, graffiti continues to evolve and expand. Many originators have moved on to creative jobs in advertising and design, allowing them to bring graffiti sensibilities to new audiences. People still trade pictures, paint city walls, and sell graffiti-related collectibles on eBay. Books and magazines on the subject continue to be published.
The art gallery scene is alive and well, and the Corcoran Museum of Art in Washington , DC, placed several pieces from graffiti 1980 Studio in their permanent collection in 2003. Style Wars is still honored and studied; the film´s re-release on DVD was greeted with a great deal of mainstream media atention.
